Monday Musings

I slept for eleven hours last night. The weekend did me in. Our friends had a block party on Saturday, and then we came home and did some swimming here, and then Sunday was our church's VBS Celebration Sunday, complete with bounce house, hot dog on a stick, cotton candy, shaved ice, a magic show, and the possum lady. Yes, you can imagine that last one went over well with me. I sat back as far as possible, claiming I needed to be in the shade, but really I just wanted to be away from that rodent. The kids loved it all. We came home and crashed.

Today I've already spent an hour cleaning the kids rooms, and we are going to run some errands and then come home to the lovely coolness of air conditioning. I've got six rows of my sarong to knit and then I'm done! Sally has to do some reading for the library summer reading club, and Samuel got a baby einstein movie to watch (he's a little old for it, but he still loves them). Big news on the potty training scene - he's doing so well! He does most of the poops on the potty (we had an incident on Saturday that I am still not ready to talk about), and he has worn real underwear three times. Two of those had a pee accident, but we were home both times and I know he's got to have those accidents to learn. All in all, I'm pretty happy about his progress. He can go by himself and he can put on a new pullup by himself. He's very proud of himself, too, which is good because the gum/candy rewards have been totally forgotten. I'm pretty proud of myself, too, because potty training Sally made me a total mess. This time around, I'm keeping my standards low, my praise high, and just waiting for him to do it on his own. It's so much better this way.

Well, we are off to the post office and the grocery. Somebody's cousins are going to get a package this week!

Since I was up until about 3 am with a fussy 6-month old and then up with the 2 yo at 7:20, I so don't want to hear about your !@#*&!($*!&% hours of sleep!

No, actually, how very wonderful that you had such good sleep (said through clenched teeth...) My turn is coming, someday. (sigh!)

My 2yo is doing well on the potty-training front as well. He has those accidents of course but it's not too bad. I'm with you on "keeping my standards low, my praise high, and just waiting for him to do it on his own. It's so much better this way." I very much agree!!
