Yep, it's Monday. Time to look back on the week, to examine what caused me distress, and to hold up what brought me joy. (In keeping with my bread theme, I'm going with types of bread I like and dislike. I dislike Rye; apologies to those of you who like it.)
Rye Bread: Two things made me sad. First, Stu's cousin Jon (who is a faithful reader and anonymous commenter here) was going to come for a visit and got sick and had to cancel his trip. We were all looking forward to seeing him and making Uncle Jon's Famous Pizza together. We missed you, Jon, and we'll have to do it again sooon. The second thing was Sally's first soccer game. While she played well and the team did make a goal, she played forward for the first quarter, ran for ten minutes straight, and came off the field crying. For those of you who really know Sally, you know that this is very unlike her. She was so discouraged and tired - I think she thought that she was expected to keep up that level of playing for the whole game. Thankfully, her coach let her rest for the second quarter, then for the third she played full back, then the fourth she was back as a forward. We told her to pass the ball when she was tired and walk for a few minutes. As it turned out, all the girls were tired and the fourth quarter moved slower than the first. She's really an excellent player, but she just can't run a long time. Endurance is not a family trait when it comes to running. She's great on defense. I think she'd be a great goalie, too.
Sweet Hawaiian Bread: The good stuff this week is my family. My parents were here and we had fun together. Both of our kids were well behaved and (miracle of miracles!) got along great. We don't live close to any of our family members, so it is nice to hang out with family and not be rushed to do lots of stuff. We watched TV, swam, ordered pizza. All the good stuff. Also I finished the shawl that I was making for my mom, and she loves it. She wore it to the conference she went to and people told her they loved it and wanted to touch it. (Blogger won't let me put up any pictures, so I'll put some up later this week.)

The couch should have her at right or left fullback. She would do less running there. (unless their offense sucks -ha ha) When I was 9 and played, I had a lot of trouble with stamina -also due to asthma. I found that playing fullback gave me plenty of opportunities to touch the ball without having to cover alot of ground.
I have watched ALOT of girls youth sports -especially soccer. It is normal for there to be ALOT of tears. The running and movement releases in endorphins which not only cause joy -but allow emotions to flow more freely. After running all over the field, chasing the ball, alot of girls end up crying without even knowing why. Think of it as catharsis.
Julia,
It helps to hear that the crying is a normal response. I didn't know that. Thanks! :)
Yeah, sports used to make me cry, too, but for different reasons.
You ORDERED pizza? Ai ya. Next time I'll just come down wearing a surgical mask to keep the germs in.
