First Grade

Today I taught a first grade class. It was fun, but I have to say this: girls are way more assertive and bossy than they used to be. It's a little unnerving. I actually had to take a little lovely seven year old girl aside and tell her, quite firmly, that I had experience teaching and that she needed to stop telling me what to do because it was really starting to bother me.

She didn't stop.

She wore me out.

I'm going to go knit something.

Did you ever have a teacher tie a kid down with a jumprope because said kid couldn't stay in his chair? I guess that's not allowed anymore.

Kids need limits, though. Nobody likes a know-it-all. Even when I'm just being helpful.

I mean "she." Even when the little girl in your story is just being helpful.

That story made me smile...I have one of those living in my house, and we do battle daily to be reminded who is the mommy. It IS exhausting, so maybe I need to learn how to knit!

tito j - no tying down allowed :)

lisa p - knitting keeps the hands busy so you can't throttle small children or eat chocolate chip cookies by the hour. i hear crocheting is good, too.
