Sam loves to rhyme. He does a rhyme almost all of the time. (groan! sorry, i can never resist.) His favorite combo goes along the lines of: "can, man, flippy-bippy yan". He particularly likes words that aren't real words. Recently, I had the occasion to give him this sensible advice:
"Sam, don't rhyme with 'duck'."
And, because we're us, we thought that was super funny. Soon, the advice expanded to:
"Sam, don't rhyme with 'duck'. Rhyme with 'chicken' instead."
And then Sally came up with this: "Mom, 'frickin' rhymes with 'chicken'."
Ok, so 'duck' is out, and 'chicken' is out. We thought we would be safe with 'bird', but no.
'Bird' rhymes with 'turd'.
(sigh) What's a mom to do?
